God's battle

My beautiful Aude. I will leave you; to go fight a battle I am not sure I will be able to finish alive. I will not see your beautiful face or look into your gorgeous eyes. I will miss you each time, I fight my enemy. I am fighting for what I believe in, for what we believe in. Christianity is supreme and no one should defy it. However, what would Oliver think of my techniques, we are good friends.  I am sure he knows that I will never make a cry for help. Never. He knows it is a sign of weakness, and we will look like imps on the battle field if we do. I can never do that to my reputation. Every Tom, Dick and Harry thinks I am the most powerful and skilled Count in France, kingdom of Charlemagne, so will I let that crumble to the ground? No. I will fight as best I can. Lord I hope you are seeing what I am writing. I pray that I am able to fight for you almighty. I hope I glorify your name, in this religious war. I hope that you see to what lengths I would go to, to make sure your name is exalted on high. I will make sure that my men will see the same, and do it. So when I lay to rest Lord, come for me and let me rest with you, Father. Gamelon may have something up his sleeves, but he has been awfully quiet about it. He thinks I want to kill him, but I cannot be bothered, I have more important things to do. Uncle Charlemagne will hopefully be impressed with how heartily we fought, and how much we wanted to be there. He would be impressed and honour us, and our families that we will leave behind. I have fear; however, I know not to show it.

Roland. A leader?

I believe that the saying that states that every man is for himself is false. When in battle or in any other situation what you do will affect others. Organization is the key to success, or else we would all fail, and pretend to admire ourselves. Leaders should learn a thing or two from these sentences. A leader is only as good as his/her people. If the leader has skills that may outshine everybody else’s, that is great. It is admirable, and probably a good example for all. However, it may not solve a problem, and the leader’s people will not be involved in that equation. However, if the leader is able to organize his people and lead them to function as one, then they will definitely be prosperous. When a man organizes his people, for the greater good, and shows companionship, then it is a sign that he cares for his people. It also shows that he feels that he is part of his people. The issue of superiority, and the question of who is inferior, does not seem to factor. So everyone is happy, and then his people admire him for leading them as one people, and not as individuals with great skills. They are also confident in their leader, and trust him. They are able to work together. The captain in a football team may have be able to score well; but if he cannot give the team spirit and spank and tell people what their role is, then the team may as well forfeit, and say they will never play again. With your leader you are one body, and what use is a head, without the rest of the vital organs and limbs? What use is a leader without his people?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       A good leader:
1)       Is Courageous
2)      Kind to his people
3)      Communicates well
4)      Puts his people before himself
5)      Makes good decisions most of the time
6)      Trusts his people
7)      Is loyal
8)      Is trustworthy
9)      Never gives up
10)   Never gives reason for people to doubt him
11)   Is organized
12)   Is humble
13)   Is giving
14)   Gives good advice
15)   Tries to be fair to each individual
16)   Has a good heart
17)   Does not discriminate
18)   Congratulates for good work done by a citizen
19)   Is assertive
20)   Has a “backbone”
21)   Has strength, no matter the kind
22)   Is intelligent
23)   Is selfless
24)   Is mature
25)    Is a servant
Roland is not necessarily a good example of a leader. He has too much pride and that is why he did not blow the horn to warn the King. Oliver was complaining that they needed help, and Roland refused to acknowledge that. In this case he was not doing what was good for his people because he put his pride before his people. This shows selfishness and immaturity. He does not make good decisions that benefit all. This is why many of his people died, and he overlooked it. He left people to fight alone while he lay to rest. He gave up in other words. He did not properly communicate with Charles about what they needed. He bragged to other people about how good his skills were instead of reminding them that they were in it together. It was as if, he were the master and they were the servants; instead it should be the other way round. He was also not very organized. It was very immature of him to refuse to summon the king, because he did not want to look like he was failing miserably.
