“Pilar Ternera, his mother, who had made his blood boil in the darkroom, was as much an irresistible obsession for him as she had been first for Jose Arcadio then for Aureliano.” Pg 111 This stands out as magical realism, because of how all the brothers and even her own son, want to sleep with her. It does not make sense. It is so much unbearable lust. It is hard to understand at what degree, and secondly why they all want to sleep with her

· Colonel Auriliano Buendia- Became a hardcore sergeant in the military. E led his army to war several times, but they all lost. The seventeen children he had with seventeen people all died in the army. He is living off some steroid in his coffee. His life seems miserable.
· Arcadio- Became very violent. He began to kill everybody in his sight. Apparently it was to enforce law. However, he killed anyone who even questioned him. Ursula went with a whip to try to discipline him, but it did not work. He continued gis violence. He was then shot before the firing squad for his violence. He is no longer alive, because of his carelessness.
· Amaranta – told Pietro Crispi that she was not going to marry him because. Hmslef, and he then killed himself. After that, she then burnt herself on her arms, and lived the rest of her life single and celibate.

In this chapter Acadio goes wild. He decides to kill everyone in his way, because he has the power. He becomes the worst Tyrant in the History of Macando. He is the only person who has killed someone in Macando. He becomes very annoyed, even at his own mother who is trying to discipline him after he acted that way. He was then killed on a wall, with so much pain and sorrow on his mind. Aureliano Buendia became so involved in war elsewhere. He never won one, but he continued to fight. He even produced 17 illegitimate children who were all killed in his battles. Pietro Crispi killed himself after Amaranta rejected him. Amranta burnt herself for this and wore a black scarf around her hands for the rest of her life. Urusla found out about Acadio’s child with Sofia. She decided to take the child under her wing. Jose Arcadio Buendia was still tied to a tree. The family is a mess.

“Come along o=in the name of God.. There has been enough madness.” Pg 117. This quote stood out to me because, it shows how much Ursula wanted to save her grandson. She wanted him to stop all his destruction. It showed how much she loved him and cared about his well being. Yet he did not listen. It was the yearn she had to get her family back to normal.
“They had not seen him since they had left the house, but he seemed so friendly and familiar that they invited him to share the stew.” Pg 113. It showed that many of Acadio’s family members, were naïve to seeing how he had destroyed the city and its residents. That no matter how far he went, they would always love him and welcome him, into their home.
5.
· Isolation was an important theme in this chapter. Ursula who had a house full of people, is now alone. Amaranta is the only one with her. Ursula is not even proud of her family and where they have ended up, some of them have even died or gone mad. She is just alone
· Within mundane everyday life, there are countless number of deaths in Macando. Several number of incest relationships, and people who have gone crazy. It is sad but true. The town’s culture is destroyed.
