In this chapter Colonel Buendia becomes such an evil man, it is unheard of. He becomes cruel and rude. He does not even put into consideration the lives of his people. He only thinks about himself and the benefits he will receive from the war. His mother sees this in him and is very disappointed. She cannot believe that this is who he has become. She even threatens to kill him if he kills Generaldo Marquez. Colonel Buendia feels isolated, and decided to kill himself. However, he survives, and his mother decides to redecorate the house and dress better. She seems happy, then one of Colonel Buendia’s solidiers, dies under Remedios the Beauty’s window.

- · “ Watch out for your heart…, your rotting alive.” Pg 165. This quote stood out to me, because it showed just how much Colonel Aureliano has changed, than even his soldiers say that he is rotting alive. It shows the degree of evil that Colonel has in his heart.
- · “Lost in the solitude of his immense power he began to lose direction.” Pg 166. This quote screamed out of the page. It shows that because of Colonel Buendia being so involved in the war, he has become lonely, and therefore he is not even thinking straight. He has become a tyrant for no reason.
5.
- · Isolation- Colonel Aureliano Buendia is so isolated. He is not even thinking straight and this is causing him to make bad decisions. He is so alone because of the war, that the more children he has, who are scattered everywhere, and the lonelier he feels.
- · Wild. Vs. Mundane- Even Ursula’s day to day life. There are so many things that pop up here and there, for example, her son going mad, and a man dying in her house under her great granddaughter’s bedroom.
