Chapter 7

 1.

“Went down steps and climbed over curbs, passed along the Street of the Turks”. Pg 132. This quote represents magical realism, because it shows how blood has a life of its own. That it can move around, on its own, it has its own life. It is as if it is a real person or animal.

·         Jose Arcadio- He made Rebeca very happy, in fact that was the only happiness she knew. However he died. He was shot, and no one could wipe of the gunpowder he was covered in. He smelt like that forever, until a company built over his body with cement.

·         Rebeca- She initially was a woman who was in love, had life and was feisty. However, after her husband died, she put up shutters internally. She did not associate with people anymore. It was as ig she died with him.

·         Jose Arcadio Buendia- He grew closer with his ghost Prudencio, and he went to join him. He died, though it was predicted by Colonel Aureliano Buendia. On the day of deaths, so many flowers fell on the streets.

This chapter was about how Aureliano was about to be killed because he was liberal. His mum was strong enough to come, to look at her son for the same time. He was taken to the street and put in front of the firing squad. He then was able to escape when war broke out with the officers. He then fought several wars after that. Jose Acadio Buendia remained in his spot, but was taken away by Ursula to live in a normal house. He then chose to go back because that was what he was used to. Sooner than later, he died. It was predicted by his son. He was then buried, and the day he was buried, yellow flowers fell on the ground. Jose Acadio was also shot and he died. Aureliano Jose joined his father in military.

·         “ I am not going to marry anyone… much less you. You love Aureliano so much that you want to marry me because you can’t marry him.” Pg 138. It is interesting how Amaranta wants to remain celibate, yet she was the one who many years ago wanted to marry Pietro Crispi. Also the fact, that a guy who truly loves, Colonel Gerineldo Marquez loves her so much, and that she does not want that. It is also shocking how cruel she is to the love he is showering her with.

·         “Take good care of Papa because he is going to die.” Pg 138. This stood out to me because, it shows how strong Colonel Aureliano’s powers are, wherever he is. It also shows no matter where he is, he is forever thinking of the family, and wants to make sure they are alright. That in essence, no matter how hard the war has made him, he still cares.

5.

·         Ursula became more isolated, because her son and her husband died one after the other, yet she still exhibits strength. 

·         Even when the flowers were falling on the ground, and it was seem beautiful, there was a funeral that was about to take place. So it was a beautiful and ugly at the same time.
